Paraphrases / Marches / Symphonie for Solo Piano, op. 39

Album by Charles‐Valentin Alkan & Mark Viner

Paraphrases / Marches / Symphonie for Solo Piano, Op. 39 is a set of solo piano works by French composer Charles-Valentin Alkan, published in 1857. Rooted in the Romantic tradition, these pieces are characterised by extreme technical demands, dense textures and a pianistic orchestral approach that expanded the expressive and structural possibilities of 19th-century piano repertoire, representing a central element of Alkan's mature solo piano output.
