Symphonies nos. 4 and 5
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Boston Symphony Orchestra & Erich Leinsdorf
Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5 are orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1806 and 1808. They exemplify Beethoven's move from Classical balance towards a more forceful early-Romantic orchestral language, with the Fourth notable for its relative lightness and lyrical poise and the Fifth characterised by concise, rhythmically driven motifs, together representing a central phase in his middle-period expansion of symphonic form.
