Symphonies no. 3 "Scottish" & no. 4 "Italian"
Album by Felix Mendelssohn & Sir Roger Norrington & Radio‐Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR
Symphonies No. 3 "Scottish" and No. 4 "Italian" are orchestral works by German composer Felix Mendelssohn, composed in 1842 and 1833 respectively. The Italian is characterised by bright, rhythmic themes and classical clarity inspired by his travels, while the Scottish employs brooding, atmospheric textures and expansive harmonic progressions that reflect a more mature, reflective phase in his symphonic writing.
