Makrokosmos I & II

Makrokosmos I & II are two volumes of solo piano works by American composer George Crumb, composed in 1972 and 1973. Written for amplified piano and making extensive use of extended techniques, unconventional timbres and theatrical notation, the pieces expand the sonic palette of the instrument and occupy a central place in Crumb's middle-period explorations of symbolism and sound-worlds within late 20th-century American experimental music.
