The Planets
Album by Gustav Holst & London Philharmonic Orchestra & Sir Adrian Boult
The Planets is an orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. The suite consists of seven movements that portray different planets using large-scale orchestration, prominent percussion and brass, modal and chromatic harmonies and bold rhythmic figures, and it marked a shift in Holst's work towards vivid orchestral colour that helped shape early 20th-century British orchestral practice.
