Symphony no. 10
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Helsingin kaupunginorkesteri & James DePreist
Symphony No. 10 is the tenth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1953. The four-movement orchestral work employs mid-20th-century symphonic language, combining sombre, lyrical passages with violent rhythmic episodes, stark contrasts, chromatic dissonance and varied orchestral colours, and it occupies a pivotal position in Shostakovich's output as his first major work after the death of Joseph Stalin.
