A Child of Our Time
Album by Sir Michael Tippett & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & André Previn
A Child of Our Time is an oratorio by the English composer Michael Tippett, completed in 1941 and first performed in 1944. The work combines expressive choral writing and 20th-century harmonic and rhythmic language while incorporating African-American spirituals as refrains, and it represents Tippett's major early long-form statement addressing contemporary political and moral issues and helping to shape mid-20th-century British choral repertoire.
