Symphony no. 9 “From the New World” / Symphonic Variations
Album by Antonín Dvořák & Baltimore Symphony Orchestra & Marin Alsop
Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" and the Symphonic Variations are orchestral works by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, completed in 1893 and 1877 respectively. The Ninth Symphony combines late-Romantic orchestration with motifs inspired by Dvořák's impressions of North American folk music and spirituals, while the Symphonic Variations comprise a set of orchestral variations that emphasise thematic transformation and colourful orchestration.
