This release comprises two sacred cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed and first performed in 1723. They exemplify Bach's liturgical vocal writing for the Lutheran church, combining choruses, arias and chorales with contrapuntal textures and harmonic rhetoric, and they occupy an early phase of his Leipzig cantata cycle in which he developed dramatic dialogues and chorale-based movements.
