Symphony no. 1
Album by Edward Elgar & Daniel Barenboim & Staatskapelle Berlin
Symphony No. 1 in A-flat major, Op. 55 is a symphony by English composer Edward Elgar, completed and first performed in 1908. The work uses late-Romantic orchestral forces with broad, sweeping themes, rich harmonic textures and marked contrasts of mood, and it represented a major step in Elgar's orchestral writing that consolidated his standing as a symphonist in the early 20th century.
