Symphony No. 9
Album by Gustav Mahler & Philharmonia Orchestra & Benjamin Zander
Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909 and first premiered posthumously in 1912. Rooted in the late-Romantic orchestral tradition, the work juxtaposes expansive forms and intimate, elegiac passages with turbulent and often dissonant textures, foreshadowing early 20th-century modernist tendencies and serving as Mahler's final completed symphony and a significant closing statement in his compositional trajectory.
