Symphony no. 9

Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909 and first performed in 1912. A late-Romantic orchestral work characterised by expansive orchestration, stark dynamic contrasts and fragmented motifs that probe themes of mortality and farewell, it represents Mahler's final completed symphony and occupies a pivotal place in the transition to twentieth-century symphonic writing.
