La bohème is an opera in four acts by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, premiered in 1896. Part of Puccini's mature output, it exemplifies late-19th-century verismo and is characterised by lyrical melody, richly coloured orchestration and intimate ensemble writing, and it contributed to the development of Italian opera.
