Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Emanuel Ax & André Previn & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 are the first two piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed mainly in the 1790s and published around 1801. Rooted in the Classical tradition, these concertos combine formal clarity with spirited fast movements, lyrical slow movements and virtuosic passages for the soloist, and they document Beethoven's transition from his Classical models towards a more personal early-Romantic expressive language within the concerto repertoire.
