String Quartet No.13, Op. 130 / Grosse Fuge, Op. 133
Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Fitzwilliam String Quartet
This is a late-period composition for string quartet together with its separate large fugue by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed in 1826. The music is late Classical chamber music that uses dense counterpoint, expanded harmonic language, sudden shifts in tempo and dynamics and unusually large-scale formal designs, and it comes from the final phase of Beethoven's quartet writing when he explored more complex structural and contrapuntal techniques.
