Symphonies 10 & 13 "Babiy Yar"

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Dimiter Petkov & London Symphony Chorus & London Symphony Orchestra & André Previn

Symphonies Nos. 10 and 13 ("Babi Yar") are orchestral symphonies by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1953 and 1962 respectively. Stylistically they blend late-Romantic orchestration with modernist dissonance, stark contrasts and, in the thirteenth symphony, choral settings of contemporary poetry, reflecting Shostakovich's engagement with political and social themes and marking significant points in his post-Stalin career.
