Dido and Aeneas is a short English opera by Henry Purcell, first performed in 1689. Musically it employs a Baroque ensemble of strings and continuo with clear recitative, lyrical airs and choral writing in English, and it is one of Purcell's few full-length stage works to survive and it reflects the style of late 17th-century English opera.
