Symphonie no. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & Wiener Symphoniker & Hans Swarowsky

Symphony No. 5 is a large-scale orchestral symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1901–1902. The five-movement work juxtaposes a somber brass-led funeral march, dynamic scherzo writing, an expansive lyrical slow movement and an exuberant finale, showcasing Mahler's increasing focus on purely instrumental orchestration and marking a pivotal shift in his career from vocal symphonies towards purely orchestral statements.
