Cantatas Nos. 4 and 140 are sacred cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed in c. 1707 and 1731 respectively. They exemplify Baroque Lutheran church music, combining choral movements, chorale-based material, solo arias and an orchestral ensemble with a focus on contrapuntal writing and chorale harmonisation, and they illustrate Bach's development from his early cantata technique to the mature Leipzig style.
