Symphonies nos. 5 and 6

Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & Münchner Philharmoniker & Sergiu Celibidache

Symphonies nos. 5 and 6 are orchestral symphonies by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed in 1888 and 1893 respectively. Both works exemplify late-Romantic orchestration and thematic transformation, combining sweeping melodies, rich orchestral colour and structural contrasts, and they occupy a late-period place in Tchaikovsky's output that reflects his evolving approach to symphonic form and emotional expression.
First released: 1993
