Symphonie fantastique
Album by Hector Berlioz & Dresdner Philharmonie & Herbert Kegel
Symphonie fantastique is a programme symphony by French composer Hector Berlioz, composed and first performed in 1830. Musically rooted in the Romantic tradition, it employs bold and imaginative orchestration, vivid dynamic contrasts, extended orchestral effects and a recurring idée fixe to shape a five-movement programme, and it occupies a pivotal position in Berlioz's career and in the development of 19th-century programme orchestral writing.
