String Quartets nos. 1-4
Album by Arnold Schönberg & Kolisch Quartet
String Quartets Nos. 1-4 is a collection of four string quartet compositions by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg, composed between 1897 and 1936. They chart Schoenberg's transition from late-Romantic chromaticism through early atonality to his mature twelve-tone technique, featuring expanded harmonic language, intense contrapuntal writing and innovative approaches to form that are significant in the development of 20th-century chamber music.
