All‐Night Vigil
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Phoenix Chorale & Kansas City Chorale & Charles Bruffy
All-Night Vigil is a choral composition by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, completed in 1915. It draws on Russian Orthodox chant and liturgical melodies, employing dense, richly voiced choral writing, prominent low-bass parts and modal harmonies to produce a contemplative, sonorous texture, and it represents a late-career synthesis of Rachmaninoff's interest in sacred music and his harmonic language.
