Dido and Aeneas is a short English opera by Henry Purcell, composed circa 1688 and first performed around 1689. It features English Baroque vocal and instrumental writing—combining expressive recitative, lyrical airs, choral passages and continuo-based orchestration—and stands as a foundational example of English Baroque opera in Purcell's output.
