Messiah is an oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel, first performed in 1742. The work combines Baroque choral and orchestral forces with arias, recitatives and choruses set to biblical texts, and stands as a major example of Händel's late choral writing and a significant work in the development of the English oratorio tradition.
