Symphony no. 6 "Tragic"
Album by Gustav Mahler & The Cleveland Orchestra & George Szell
Symphony No. 6 "Tragic" is a symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1904 and premiered in 1906. Characterised by its large late-Romantic orchestra, expansive structures, stark contrasts and recurring motifs of fate and struggle, it occupies a pivotal position in Mahler's middle period as a darker, more tragic counterpart to his earlier works and helped shape subsequent developments in 20th-century symphonic writing.
