Dido and Aeneas

Album by Henry Purcell & Arnold Schoenberg Chor & Concentus Musicus Wien & Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Dido and Aeneas is a Baroque opera by English composer Henry Purcell, composed c.1688 and likely first performed c.1689. Musically it synthesises elements of the English masque with continental operatic forms, combining recitative, lyrical arias and dramatic choruses, and it is regarded as an early example of English opera within Purcell's stage repertoire and Restoration theatre.
