This release collects two string quartet works by Franz Schubert, composed in 1820 and 1824. They exemplify Schubert's mature chamber style, combining lyrical, song-like themes with dramatic minor-key intensity, adventurous harmonic shifts and concentrated motivic development, and they occupy an important place in his late output as examples of his move towards greater expressive and structural ambition in early 19th-century chamber music.
