The Gondoliers
Album by W.S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan & The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company & John Pryce‐Jones
The Gondoliers is a comic opera by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, first produced in 1889. Musically it sits within the Savoy operetta tradition, combining light operatic orchestration, brisk ensemble writing and music-hall rhythms with an Italianate setting, and it represents one of the duo's later works that emphasised larger choruses and broader ensemble writing in their career.
