Symphony no. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & DR SymfoniOrkestret & Leif Segerstam
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. A large-scale late-Romantic orchestral work, it marks a move away from Mahler's earlier vocal-symphony approach toward purely instrumental writing and is characterised by dramatic contrasts, expanded brass and string forces, intricate counterpoint and a prominent slow movement that shapes the work's overall architecture.

First released: January 1995
