Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55, known as the Eroica, is a symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed in 1804 and first performed in 1805. The work expanded the scale, emotional range and structural complexity of the symphony—employing a larger orchestra, extended movements and novel thematic development—and played a key role in shifting the symphonic tradition from Classical forms toward the expressive aims of the early Romantic era.
