Quintet, op. 163, D. 956
Album by Franz Schubert & Yo‐Yo Ma & Cleveland Quartet
String Quintet in C major, D. 956 is a chamber-music composition by Franz Schubert, completed in 1828. Scored for two violins, viola and two cellos, it features expansive lyrical melodies, a rich harmonic language and a contemplative slow movement, and it is one of Schubert's final major chamber works, written in the last months of his life and exemplifying his late style bridging Classical and early Romantic idioms.
First released: January 1985
