Symphony No.1 in C Minor, Op. 68

Album by Johannes Brahms & Wiener Philharmoniker & Herbert von Karajan

Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed and premiered in 1876. The four-movement work combines Romantic orchestral sonorities with classical structural rigour, characterised by dense textures, prominent brass and string writing, and a finale that resolves earlier tensions while situating Brahms within the symphonic tradition of the late 19th century.
