Symphony No. 1
Album by Gustav Mahler & New York Philharmonic & Lorin Maazel
Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. Marking Mahler's emergence as a symphonist, it blends late-Romantic orchestration, folk-like motifs and programme-inspired passages to explore large-scale structure and contrasts in orchestral colour that foreshadow his later symphonies.
