Symphonies 39 & 40
Album by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Berliner Philharmoniker & Carlo Maria Giulini
Symphonies Nos. 39 and 40 are orchestral works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in 1788. They exemplify his late Classical style through economical yet inventive orchestration, clear formal structures and contrasting moods—most notably a heightened minor-key intensity in the G minor work set against the more luminous textures of the E-flat symphony—and form two of the three final symphonies that mark the close of his symphonic output.
