Riders to the Sea
Album by Ralph Vaughan Williams & Royal Northern Sinfonia & Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia & Richard Hickox
Riders to the Sea is a one-act opera by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, completed in 1927. The work employs modal melodies, spare orchestration and declamatory vocal writing to evoke a bleak coastal drama and represents a concentrated, small-scale dramatic experiment within Vaughan Williams's output alongside his larger symphonic and choral works.
