Dvořák: American Quartet / Smetana: From My Life
Album by Antonín Dvořák & Bedřich Smetana & Panochovo kvarteto
This album is a recording of two string quartets by Antonín Dvořák, originally composed in 1893 and 1877. Musically the works juxtapose the composer’s late-period, broadly melodic style—with influences drawn from American and Bohemian folk traditions—and an earlier, more autobiographical and introspective approach, employing rich string textures, lyrical themes and a distinctive harmonic language that mark important stages in his chamber-music development.

First released: 1995
