Symphony no. 11 "The Year 1905"
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Eliahu Inbal & Wiener Symphoniker
Symphony No. 11 "The Year 1905" is the eleventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1957. Orchestrally expansive and largely programme-driven, it employs sombre brass chorales, stark wind and percussion textures and vivid orchestral colours to evoke events associated with 1905, and it occupies a prominent place in Shostakovich's mature, politically engaged postwar output.
