Symphony no. 11 in G minor, op. 103
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Государственный cимфонический оркестр Министерства культуры СССР & Gennadi Nikolayevich Rozhdestvensky
Symphony No. 11 in G minor, Op. 103 is the eleventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed and premiered in 1957. Musically it is an expansive four-movement orchestral work that employs sombre brass chorales, vivid orchestral colour and episodic, programmatic tableaux to evoke historical events, and it occupies a notable place in Shostakovich's late-1950s output as a public-facing reflection on recent Russian history.
