Symphonies Nos. 2 & 3 "Rhenish"
Album by Robert Schumann & Baltimore Symphony Orchestra & David Zinman
Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3 ("Rhenish") are orchestral works by Robert Schumann, composed in 1845–46 and 1850 respectively. They exemplify mid-Romantic orchestral writing through expanded orchestration, chromatic harmony and songlike melodies, and they mark a shift in Schumann's output toward a more sustained symphonic approach within his career and the broader Romantic tradition.
