Scheherazade / Capriccio Espagnol
Album by Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky‐Korsakov & London Symphony Orchestra & Igor Markevitch
Scheherazade / Capriccio Espagnol is a pairing of orchestral works by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, composed in 1888 and 1887 respectively. The pieces employ lush, colourful orchestration, prominent solo lines, folk-inspired melodies, programme-like narrative elements and lively Spanish-inflected dance rhythms, and they represent a mature phase in Rimsky-Korsakov's output during which he refined his orchestral technique and approach to colour and texture.
