Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major, Symphony no. 4 in E minor
Album by Johannes Brahms & David Fiodorovich Oistrakh & Česká filharmonie & Antonio Pedrotti
A violin concerto and a fourth symphony are orchestral works by the German composer Johannes Brahms, composed in 1878 and 1885 respectively. Both pieces exemplify late-Romantic orchestral writing, blending classical forms with expansive harmonic language, rich contrapuntal textures and prominent solo writing in the concerto, and they occupy central positions in Brahms's mature output as examples of his rigorous approach to form and orchestral argumentation.
