Symphonie no. 1

Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1888. The work employs late-Romantic orchestral forces, combining expansive, folk-inflected melodies, dramatic contrasts and lyrical passages to form a broad, cyclical structure that marked Mahler's emergence as a symphonic composer and anticipated the large-scale ambitions of his later symphonies.
