Symphony no. 9

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & San Francisco Symphony & Michael Tilson Thomas

Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, completed and first performed in 1824. The work, composed at the end of Beethoven's career and representative of the transition from the Classical to the Romantic era, expands symphonic form through large-scale orchestration, marked dynamic and harmonic contrasts, and the unprecedented incorporation of vocal soloists and a chorus in its final movement.
