Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 are the first and second symphonies by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed in 1876 and 1877 respectively. They are large-scale Romantic orchestral works that blend classical forms and contrapuntal technique with rich, late-Romantic harmony and expansive orchestration, marking Brahms's arrival as a symphonist after a prolonged gestation and securing his position within the 19th-century symphonic tradition.
