Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3 are orchestral works by Johannes Brahms, completed in 1876 and 1883 respectively. They use Romantic harmony and rich orchestral textures with extended thematic development, and they occupy different points in Brahms's career: the First arrived after many years of work on symphonic form while the Third shows a more lyrical, compact voice in his mature output.
