Messiah is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1741 and first performed in Dublin in 1742. Written in the Baroque style for soloists, chorus and orchestra and setting English biblical texts through a succession of recitatives, arias and choruses, it exemplifies Handel's mature oratorio technique and has had a long-standing presence in the English choral tradition.
