War Requiem

Album by Benjamin Britten & Galina Vishnevskaya & Peter Pears & Dietrich Fischer‐Dieskau

War Requiem is a large-scale choral and orchestral work by Benjamin Britten, premiered at the consecration of Coventry Cathedral in 1962. The composition juxtaposes the Latin Requiem Mass with contemporary war poetry, blending liturgical textures with orchestral and chamber forces, soloists and chorus, and it occupies a central place in Britten's middle period and in the development of post-war British choral repertoire.
