A Ceremony of Carols
Album by Benjamin Britten & Choir of Westminster Abbey & Martin Neary
A Ceremony of Carols is a choral work by Benjamin Britten, composed in 1942. Scored for treble voices and harp, it sets medieval English texts in a sequence of short movements that use modal melodies, close vocal harmonies and rhythmic interplay, and it marks an early example of Britten's exploration of vocal colour and historical sources in his output.
