Symphonies Nos. 8 and 9 are the eighth and ninth symphonies by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, completed in 1955 and 1958 respectively. Both works use late-period orchestral language with increased dissonance, expanded textures, layered sonorities and a generally more concise approach to thematic material, and they occupy the composer’s final creative phase following his earlier pastoral style.
